Caffaro gets second chance at NCAA

Fort McMurray Oil Barons defenceman Lane Caffaro has signed a letter of intent to attend Union College in Schenectady, NY on a hockey scholarship.

The 21-year-old veteran played in 59 of the MOB?s 64 regular season games this year, collecting nine goals and 22 assists and was an impressive +31 on the plus/minus scale. He becomes the second Oil Barons player to accept a Division I NCAA scholarship this year, following the lead of fellow defenceman John Schwarz, who will play at Michigan Tech University next season.

This is the second scholarship offered to Caffaro this year. Last summer it was announced he would attend Harvard next season, but was later nixed from the Ivy League school?s plans due to academic requirements.

The Union College Dutchmen play out of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
